Steers Competition

The Royal Agricultural Show’s Steers Competition is for both haltertrained and non-haltertrained  steers.

The competition is judged on the hoof by the South African Fat Stock Judging Association (SAFJA), and on the hook by the South African Meat Industry Company (SAMIC).

Veld Heifer Competition

Monday 1 June

The Royal Agricultural Show’s Heifer Competition is open to grass-fed beef and unprepared heifers – beef or dairy, purebred or cross-bred, registered or unregistered. Animals need to be well presented but not necessarily halter-trained. Cross entries will not be permitted into the stud classes.

Heifers are judged by the South African Fat Stock Judging Association (SAFJA) in four classes:

  • Class 1 – Group of 3 open beef heifers

  • Class 2 – Group of 3 pregnant beef heifers

  • Class 3 – Group of 3 beef weaner heifers

  • Class 4 – Group of 3 open dairy heifers
