Overview: 2026 Royal Show Sheep Section
The Sheep section will be a major part of the agricultural programme at the 2026 Royal Show, bringing together regional and national breed competition, commercial livestock production and some of the Royal Agricultural Society’s flagship livestock events.
Regional Breed Shows — Wednesday, 7 October
The stud sheep programme begins on Wednesday in the Sheep & Goat Marquee, with regional shows for:
Suffolk
Dorper
Ile de France
Hampshire Down
Judging begins from 09:00, with two rings operating concurrently. The final breed sequence and individual times are still being confirmed.
Royal Fat Lamb Competition — Thursday, 8 October
Thursday puts the focus on commercial production with the Royal Fat Lamb Competition, beginning from 09:00 in the Sheep & Goat Marquee.
Support has been particularly strong this year, with over 200 fat lambs across 55 pens formally on the books, and counting — making this one of the substantial livestock sections of the 2026 Show.
The Royal Fat Lamb Competition forms the sheep component of the wider Royal Fat Stock Show, supported in 2026 by ADM Animal Nutrition, HIPRA, KZN RPO and the Royal Agricultural Society of Natal.
The competition continues the Royal tradition of recognising excellence in commercially produced livestock, with judging contributing to the wider fat stock and carcass programme
Dormer National Show — Friday, 9 October
Friday brings a national dimension to the Sheep section with the Dormer National Show, beginning from 09:00.
As one of the headline livestock events of the week, the National Show will bring leading Dormer breeders and animals together at the Royal Show’s new Tweedie home.
Interbreed & Gold Cup — Saturday, 10 October
Saturday brings the stud sheep competitions together for the Interbreed Sheep Competition, where leading animals from the individual breeds compete across breed lines.
This is followed by the Standard Bank Gold Cup Awards in the evening in the Sheep Marquee — continuing one of the Royal Agricultural Society’s longstanding traditions of recognising livestock excellence.
The exact starting times for the Interbreed competition and Gold Cup Awards are still being finalised.
Supporting the Sheep Section
Voermol Feeds is also supporting the Sheep section in 2026, contributing towards meals for sheep exhibitors during the Show and continuing a relationship of support provided to the section in previous years.
From regional breed championships and the Dormer National Show to a strongly supported Fat Lamb Competition, Interbreed judging and the Gold Cup, the 2026 Sheep section places breeding, production and livestock excellence firmly at the heart of the Royal Show.
