Entries Open for the 2026 Royal Fat Stock Show
Some of South Africa’s finest commercial livestock will compete for Royal honours this October, as the prestigious Royal Fat Stock Show and Royal Carcass Competition return during the Royal Show’s 175th anniversary year.
The competition will take place at the Royal Showgrounds at Tweedie, Howick, with beef classes on Wednesday, 7 October, and lamb classes on Thursday, 8 October.
Quality judged on the hoof and on the hook
Producers are invited to enter their best cattle and lambs for a competition that puts quality livestock production to the test both on the hoof and on the hook.
Animals will first be judged on the hoof by the South African Feedlot Judges Association (SAFJA), across a range of individual and group classes. These include the highly regarded Super Ox and Super Lamb categories.
Following the live-animal judging, carcasses will be professionally evaluated by the South African Meat Industry Company (SAMIC), with attention given to the characteristics that contribute to a quality end product.
The Royal Carcass Auction
The competition will reach its traditional conclusion on Saturday, 10 October, with the Royal Carcass Auction.
The results of the Royal Carcass Competition will be announced, before the winning carcasses go under the hammer. The auction brings producers, buyers and other members of the livestock industry together for a prestigious celebration of commercial livestock excellence.
The Royal Fat Stock Show has a proud history of recognising achievement in livestock production. In the Royal Show’s 175th year, producers are invited to bring their best and compete for a place in that history.

The 2026 Royal Show takes place from Wednesday, 7 October to Sunday, 11 October at the new Royal Showgrounds at Tweedie, Howick.
