Dorfling Dorpers win Royal Super Lamb on hoof & hook

The 2025 Royal Carcass Competition Champion Super Lamb was bred by Christo Dorfling of Dorfling Dorpers in Weenen.

At the 2025 Royal Fat Stock Show and Carcass Competition, Christo Dorfling’s Dorfling Dorpers from Weenen accomplished the extraordinary feat of securing the Champion Super Lamb title both on the hoof and on the hook.

On Saturday, Christo’s Dorper claimed first place in the Super Lamb category during the on-the-hoof judging at the Lions River Sale Yard. The same animal then achieved the highest score in Tuesday’s carcass judging, evaluated by Chris Ngeleza and Selvan Odayan of SAMIC, earning the prestigious title of 2025 Royal Show Champion Super Lamb Carcass.

Wayne Muller, General Manager of the Royal Agricultural Society, commended Christo Dorfling’s achievement, stating, “It is rare for both sets of judges to reach unanimous agreement on a champion. We look forward to seeing what Christo brings to next year’s show.”

The carcass judging was conducted at Halaal Fresh Meats Abattoir in Thornville, with the winning lamb carcasses acquired by Clover Meats, a premier Durban butchery, for their discerning clientele.

The Society extends its gratitude to Chris Ngeleza and Selvan Odayan of SAMIC for their expertise and commitment, as well as to RPO KZN and SAFJA for their invaluable support in ensuring the overall success of the 2025 Royal Fat Stock Show and Carcass Competition.

“This year’s event was a resounding success, showcasing agricultural heritage, community spirit, and a commitment to excellence,” Muller reflected. “We look forward to welcoming everyone back for our historic 175th anniversary show in 2026.”

The 2026 Royal Agricultural Show, marking this significant milestone, will take place from 29 May to 3 June at the Royal’s new venue, Tweedie Hall, just outside Howick in the KZN Midlands.
