10 Benefits of Exhibiting at the Royal Show 2018
March 22, 2018

The 2018 Royal Show will see the hosting of the KZN leg of the Toyota SA National Young Auctioneer Competition – an event initiated in 2013 by Veeplaas and Stockfarm magazines. This promises to be an exciting event, both for participants and competitors. Find out more…

Calling Young Auctioneers!

Open to interested persons in two categories; Juniors 19 and younger, and young persons 30 and younger the competition is held to promote the livestock auctioneering profession.
Participants are judged in categories according to rostrum performance, and livestock knowledge.

In advance of the finals which are scheduled to take place at the Alfa Show in Parys in September, ten regional competitions will be held across the country, with the KZN leg taking place on Monday, 28 May at the Royal Show. Whilst the auction is fictional in nature, cattle (on display in the ring) will constitute the Royal Show subject matter.

The winner will receive a jacket sponsored by Veeplaas, prize money of R1 000 sponsored by the Royal Show, and financial assistance to attend and participate in the Alfa Show Nationals. The second and third placed participants will each receive R500 sponsored by the Royal Show.

Although the junior competition at Alfa is effectively the final round, the National winner in the ‘young persons’ category will progress to representing South Africa in an international event in 2019.

The winner of the National competition will represent South Africa in the Argentine in 2018.

See the Young Auctioneers in Action!

Aside from affording participants and observers with an interesting and at times lighthearted experience, the primary purpose is to give budding youngsters an opportunity to portray their ability, with a view to possibly entering the auctioneering profession at some future date.

The ideal participant would have a charismatic, thespian leaning, who would be prepared to spend a couple of hours appraising himself as to the attributes of cattle.
