Royal Show - Shark Show

Terrifying to many of us, because we understand so little about them, sharks actually play a crucial role in the ecosystem. Come along to one of the River Stage Shark Shows, presented by the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board, and learn more about sharks…

Fun Facts About Sharks

Did you know?

  • Sharks have been swimming the oceans for 400 million years!
  • Sharks have survived five of our planet’s biggest extinction level events, including the one that killed the dinosaurs 65 million years ago
  • There are at least 500 species of sharks
  • Sharks have no bones; their skeletons are made of cartilage
  • Like the lion of the African savanna, sharks are the top predators of the ocean
  • Sharks are survivors, rarely contracting diseases – the average shark lives to be about 25 years old, but can live much longer.

Parents, teachers and children, enjoy the dynamic ‘shark shows’ on the River Stage – learn about the sensory biology of sharks, reproduction, feeding habits, and their role as top predators in the marine environment. The show is followed by a shark dissection where you can see the internal anatomy and get an opportunity to touch the skin of these awesome predators.

Show dates are:

  • Wednesday, 29 May – 13h.30
  • Thursday, 30 May – 13h30
