Did you know that the Poultry Section of the Pietermaritzburg Royal Show is the is the largest local poultry show held during the year? Showcasing the best purebred poultry in the region, including waterfowl, it’s the highlight of the local poultry showing calendar!
The Poultry Section is enthusiastically presented by the Natal and Coast Poultry Club, the largest of its kind in the country, and affiliated to the Southern African Show Poultry Organisation.
Poultry Showing is a hobby focused on the challenge of improving a breed, maintaining rare breeds to their original standard of their country of origin. Initially poultry shows were a place to market breeds commercially but nowadays the challenge is to retain these breeds to the original standard. Although this is an affiliated show it is renowned for having a friendly atmosphere.
As well as a comprehensive sale section, there will be 600 exhibits on show.
Whether you are looking for farmyard fowls, decorative bantams for the garden or the challenge of exhibiting, be sure to visit the Poultry Hall where members of the committee will be available to chat and answer any queries you may have. Poultry will be on sale during the show, but please be aware that there will be no poultry available for viewing or sale until 14h00 on Monday 27th May!
