Oboist Myfanwy Price Poses with her Instrument

For seven years, the Royal Show has collaborated with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra and Music Revival to present the Royal Symphony. This classical music event has captivated audiences from all walks of life in a unique and timeless way.
This year, oboist Myfanwy Price will be performing with the orchestra, showcasing her talent and grace. To watch Africa’s leading orchestral ensemble is to experience beauty and relaxation in one, under the African sky. To find out more about Myfanwy and her story, see below!

About the Musician

Myfanwy Price kicked off her studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama Junior Department and continued on to earn her BMUS degree at the Royal College of Music. There, she studied oboe with esteemed professor John Anderson, and cor anglais with the talented Jane Marshall, mastering her craft. It is a privilege to have this talented young lady join us for the Royal Show 2018.

Myfanwy’s Accomplishments

This young musician already receives generous support from a John Lewis Partnership Award, the Ryan Davies Memorial Fund and the Philharmonia MMSF John E. Mortimer Woodwind Award. A dedicated orchestral player, Myfanwy Price has enjoyed performing with myriad orchestras in her time; she was principal oboist in the National Youth Orchestra of Wales and the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Wales, among others.

Accompanying these ensembles has given Myfanwy the chance to perform all over the world, including legendary venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Royal Albert Hall. At the Royal College of Music, she regularly plays in the Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra and the Wind Orchestra, wherein she has worked with numerous talented conductors and musicians.

The Royal Symphony 2018

This year at the Royal Show, Myfanwy Price will be heard in the sprightly ‘Allegro’ from Mozart’s Oboe Concerto. Other numbers to be performed include Fiagro’s comincal aria ‘Largo al factotum’ from the ‘Barber of Seville’, as well as ‘On the Street Where You Live’ from ‘My Fair Lady’ and the soaring ‘Your Raise Me Up’. These beautiful classics – and more – will be performed with passion as part of the Royal Symphony.

Don’t miss out on this stunning show that will undoubtedly captivate its audience once again. Myfanwy Price continues to prove herself as a talented and dedicated musician and will grace the stage along with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra on Sunday the 27th of May, at 10:00.
Extensive seating will be available in the Main Arena and on the Grandstands. Show goers are advised to bring along hats and umbrellas should the weather be warm, so as to enjoy the performance to its fullest. We give thanks to Coca-Cola, The Witness and First National Bank for making the Royal Symphony possible.
