The Pietermaritzburg Budgerigar Club invites you to come along and explore the fascinating hobby of budgies at the 2022 Royal Show.

Provincial Budgie Show

“The Pietermaritzburg Budgerigar Club, will this year, be hosting the KZN Provincial Show, for budgies bred and rung by members, at the Royal Show grounds. We are affiliated to AWEBSA, (Association of Wild Type and Exhibition Budgerigars in South Africa) an independent budgie association in South Africa.

This is an exciting time for members who have shown their stock at virtual shows the past two years, due to restrictions set in place through covid.  The birds will be judged by Lionel Sydenham, a retired, ex Pietermaritzburg breeder who has more than 50 years of breeding and judging experience behind him. He is well known for his judging ability, sticking to the World Budgerigar Standard for budgies.

This year’s show will run on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th May in the bird hall next to the rabbits. Judging will take place on the morning of the 28th, wherafter the hall will be opened up for the general public to be able to view all.

There will also be a variety of different colours, both exhibition and wild types available to the public to buy at very reasonable prices for the duration of these couple of days, so bring along an empty cage and come take your pick. No cage…. don’t worry we will have carry boxes available to take them home in.”
