The poultry section of the 2010 Royal Show promises to be as good as ever this year. This section is enthusiastically presented by the Natal and Coast Poultry Club and affiliated to the Southern African Show Poultry Organisation. This Club was founded in 1884 under the name ‘Natal Poultry Club’ making it the oldest poultry club in South Africa. Initially poultry shows were a place to market the then commercial breeds. Nowadays the challenge is to retain these breeds.
The hobby is the challenge of improving a breed, maintaining rare breeds to the original standard of the country of origin, as well as the pride of ownership and a sense of accomplishment.
Whether you are looking for farmyard fowls, decorative bantams or the challenge of exhibiting, be sure to visit the poultry hall where members of the committee will be available to chat or answer queries. Poultry will be on sale during the show. Please be aware that there will be no poultry available for viewing until 15h00 on the 31st May.
