With an enticing theme of Morning Melodies, the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra (KZNPO) will present a superb rendition of many of the worlds loveliest and popular classic melodies. Now in its fifth year, the Royal Symphony Concert, is presented by The Royal Show, in association with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra on the Great Stage of the Main Arena on Sunday 5 June at 10h00.
The splendour of the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra onstage in a Sunday morning concert of radiant classics and beautiful melodies is always a highlight for local audiences. This year those attending the Royal Symphony Concert at The Royal Show will not be disappointed when they experience a superb selection of popular classics suitable for the whole family.
The programme, compiled by Music Revival’s Christopher Duigan, sees Assistant Artistic Director of the orchestra, Daniel Walshaw, conduct the orchestra and soloists for this magnificent performance. They will play music from The Four Seasons by Vivaldi, the jovial Rondo from Mozart’s Horn Concerto 4, The Swan from Carnival of Animals, Mozart’s Symphony No 40, the serene Largo, from the New World Symphony by Antonin Dvorak, Flight of the Bumble Bee and many others. Soloists include orchestra concertmaster Joanna Frankel on violin, Russian cellist Boris Kerimov, and pianist Christopher Duigan who plays Beethoven’s immortal ‘Fur Elise’ and the popular film music number ‘River Runs Through You’.
The concert offers a unique opportunity for the whole family to experience a live symphony orchestra – the KZNPO is one of just a handful of fully professional orchestras in South Africa – playing a familiar choice of quality music as popularised in the general media; in movies, on television shows, and even in advertisements.
Grab a cup of coffee, sit back and enjoy the music – extensive seating will be provided in the Main Arena and grandstands. It is recommended that you bring hats and/or umbrellas should it be a warm day.
Daily gate fees for the Royal Show apply of R60 per adult and R40 for children under 12 and pensioners. Tickets are available at the gate, or on our website.
